Auto Union D-Type: Der Führer’s Favorite

Auto Union D Type: Der Führers Favorite
Historical and rare, this Auto Union D-Type Grand Prix racer is up for auction in August at the Bonhams & Butterfields sale at the Quail Lodge in Carmel, California. This car, chassis number 19, is only one of three in existence today. It has a 3.0 liter V12 supercharged engine developing a monstrous 485 horsepower - a brutal number even at today’s standards. Oh, this car was also regarded as Hitler’s favorite. He didn’t race the car though, he simply watched his driver friends rule the podiums during the ‘39 Grand Prix season. You can get the car and get a rare piece of history that goes along with it. The August 14 auction estimates the car’s price will fetch about $8,000,000.
