Japanese Widebody Mercedes-Benzes

VITT is a rarely discussed Japanese tuner with a penchant for producing widebody Mercedes-Benz street and show cars. Since widebody Benzes are hard to come by already and JDM tuned Benzes are even rarer, I thought it would be a unique topic to share here.

VITT also produces various other tuning parts for Mercedes to accompany their aero parts for a full conversion. As expected from JDM VIP style tuning, VITT uses wide three piece rims with stretched tires to complete the aggressive look.

I must say that although I appreciate what they are doing, I don’t think they’ve quite hit any home runs as far as design goes. I wouldn’t say any of their design is bad, but for a commitment as big as a widebody is (both the produce and to buy/install) I’d like to hope that it would be something spectacular. Their newer stuff like this CL widebody below is seeming to improve a bit over their older widebodies. I like the lines of the rear fender and rear bumper on the CL, there are some nice design concepts in there.

Mercedes-Benz S600: Luxurious Standard

As the saying goes, they’ve put everything in this car but the kitchen sink. There is a short list of the most wanted luxury cars in the world and this Mercedes-Benz S600 is on that list. This car is an amalgamation of power, luxury, and technology. One side of the three-pointed star is the huge V12 engine, developing 510 horsepower and goes from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. Not bad for a two-ton 5-seater. A new COMAND system controls the audio, climate, and navigation system, all within line of sight. A night camera will let you see objects from 500 feet away. Huge 18 inch wheels let the car hug the road and the Active Body Control adjusts the car’s attitude and balance on the go. An iPod integration system plus the Harman/Kardon digital surround system makes sure you don’t miss out on your favorite tunes on the go. $152,000+.

Due to record gas prices and a rising demand for fuel-efficient vehicles in the US, Mercedes-Benz is considering the idea of importing its next generation of the B-Class to the US. They are also working on a new "baby" SUV that is smaller than the current M-Class.
